Final Plans To Be Put Forward For Levenshulme And Burnage Active Travel Neighbourhood

A final plan is to be put together on the permanent future of the Levenshulme and Burnage Active Travel Neighbourhood in Manchester.

Thousands of people have taken part in consultations telling Manchester Council which elements they are in favour of, and which could be improved.

From an initial plan of 25 modal filters, a final selection of 14 were installed in key areas in both Levenshulme and Burnage for a trial period of six months to find out how they worked in practice.

Following the end of the trial, and reviews of feedback, all 14 filters will be made permanent.


The locations of those filters are:

• Buckhurst Road

• Cardus Street (North)

• Delamere Road and Gordon Avenue

• Dorset Road

• Caremine Avenue

• Guildford Road

• Henderson Street (location to be changed slightly in response to feedback from residents)

• Longden Road

• Manor Road East (location to be changed in response to feedback from residents)

• Mayford Road

• Molyneux Road

• Osborne Road

• Portville Road and Randolph Street

• Victoria Road

Where possible feedback was taken into account about how the installation of these filters would alter people’s behaviour on the roads and how traffic would adjust when formerly fully vehicle accessible streets were closed off.

This month the Highways Service presented the initial outline designs for the proposed next stage of the Active Travel Neighbourhood scheme to ward councillors in both areas.

These were agreed in principle, with the plans also submitted to Transport for Greater Manchester for their review and comment.
