Bromley Council has given the go-ahead for new houses to be developed in Orpington Town Centre.
Two planning applications were recently submitted to the council.
The first application was for 40 housing units with commercial retail and office floorspace at Nos. 208-212 High Street, Orpington. The existing vacant building, located opposite The Walnuts Shopping Centre, will be demolished to make way for the new development. The new building will be up to five storeys in height with a mix of one, two and three bed units. There will be two disabled parking spaces and 94 cycle parking spaces.
The second application was for 17 new apartments at Nos. 32-36 Homefield Rise, Orpington. Nos. 34 and 36 Homefield Rise will be demolished to allow for a part three storey, part four storey development with a mix of one and two bed units. 35 percent of the units will be affordable, in line with Bromley council's planning policy. No 32 Homefield Rise is currently being retained.
Councillor Alexa Michael, Chairman of Development Control Committee, said: "These applications both deserved approval as they are well designed and will provide much-needed housing for Bromley borough residents. The Orpington High Street development will contribute to the regeneration of Orpington Town Centre. The Homefield Rise application is the third part of a phased development which contributes greatly to the local area."
The planning applicant for the Orpington High Street site is Acklam Developments, who acquired the vacant site in 2020. The Homefield Rise development is being brought forward by Landsdown Goldman Klein and Clarion Housing Group who have already developed 68 units on this site which is allocated for housing in Bromley's Local Plan.
