Construction News Image
Sugar Studios has been awarded change of use by the Greenwich London Borough Council.

With the permission under its belt, Sugar Studios can now deliver on its ambition to play a leading role in the local community. This includes developing a social space for events and a creative hub for workshops, talks and classes.

Various creative industries are set to be involved with the new hub - from DJ’s and music producers to film directors and local artists demonstrating the broad appeal of the space. Additionally through Sugar Studio's connection with MDM Props Ltd, a leading prop and art fabrication company, art workshops and life drawing classes will also be open to all members of the public.

Sugar Studios currently operates as a studio space for photographic shoots, music videos, advertising and events, with four diverse and flexible shoot spaces and one of the largest infinity coves in London..

Sugar Studios' expansion comes at an exciting time for the Greenwich Peninsula with a major housing and commercial project set to start in 2023, while craft beer giants Brew By Numbers (BBNo) has recently opened its new brewery and tap room nearby.

Sugar Studios Director, Jo Wallace and her team have worked hard to ensure that the new Sugar Studios experience will deliver both practically and culturally. The attention to detail covers everything from the decor to their commitment to sustainability to an emphasis on homemade food. Sugar Cafe, headed up by Stephanie Smith who is also one half of DJ-duo Raw Silk, serves a wide range of delicious foods, such as salad bowls, homemade granola and artisan coffee as well as its famous brownies.

Jo Wallace commented: "I've always had big plans for Sugar Studios and this is an important milestone for the team and I. I’m really proud that we are building something new for the local community in the form of a social and creative space that will bring people together to learn new skills, take up new hobbies, network and socialise.

"We have worked hard to provide a spacious, safe space where people can come together again after a prolonged period of social isolation. The timing couldn’t be better and there’s a sense of real positivity both in the local Greenwich community and in the UK as a whole as we venture out again."
