Work To Begin To Fix Landslip On A5004

Construction News Image
Contractors are to commence work work to fix a landslip on the A5004, Long Hill between Buxton and Whaley Bridge in Derbyshire on Monday 25 April.

While the work takes place the road will be closed, with signed diversions in place. It is scheduled to be completed by 25 September.

The road first moved in 2016 and has steadily got worse and a set of traffic lights were put on the road in December 2019 to keep traffic away from the edge of the road.

The work includes the contractors digging down to bedrock, around six meters below the existing road level and putting in a reinforced earth retaining wall. It has been scheduled to avoid work taking place on the A6 in Buxton, as this is the diversion route.

Contractors working for High Peak Borough Council are building a roundabout on the A6 at the southern end of the golf course to provide access to housing sites at Hogshaw and Waterswallows (Dale Lane).

Most of the work will be taking place at the side of the road, meaning that the A6 won't be closed while the work on the A5004 takes place, apart from three overnight closures in July, with dates to be confirmed nearer the time.
