United Living Infrastructure Services (ULIS) has won phase two of National Grid's Hatton Compressor Upgrade project in Lincolnshire.
The latest package of works will concentrate on re-routing existing pipelines connecting the Compressor station and the ‘Above Ground Installations' (AGI) to make way for the installation of the new Compressor and associated pipework.
The works on the Hatton Compressor station are driven by the Industrial Emissions Directive, the requirements of which have identified that 2 of the onsite gas compressors no longer meet the harmful emissions limits and need to be retired by December 2023. As a result, the upgrade project aims to replace the two units with a single, larger and more environmentally friendly Unit.
The Hatton Compressor Station has a pivotal role in the National Transmission systems (NTS) operation. With nine connecting pipelines, the Hatton Compressor site is used to facilitate gas flows from terminals to the north, support the operation of storage sites in the Northwest, provide demand support in the southeast, and support the interconnector flows at Bacton.
James O'Donnell, Operations Director of Infrastructure Services, said: "We are delighted to be awarded the second phase of the Hatton Compressor Upgrade works and to continue our involvement in such a high profile and strategically important project for National Grid. Within Infrastructure Services, we aim to prioritise the development and upgrade of infrastructure to be more environmentally friendly for the planet; both for our generation and for future generations to come."
The second phase of the works are scheduled to be completed in October 2022.
