Morgan Sindall Construction has been chosen to deliver Brighton & Hove City Council's (BHCC) Kingsway to the Sea regeneration project on the West Hove seafront.
Procured through BHCC's local development framework, which sets out to improve several areas across the city centre, the development work aims to regenerate the underused, aging facilities and green spaces on the seafront in West Hove.
Following a public consultation in October 2021, it was found that the top three reasons locals would visit West Hove seafront were health and fitness (92%), social reasons (80%) and to visit a public open space (76%). However, it also found that almost three quarters (72%) didn’t frequently visit the site because they felt it wasn't accessible or safe to use.
As part of its plans to regenerate West Hove seafront, Morgan Sindall Construction are set to deliver dedicated spaces for sports including a 600 m sq roller skating area, a multi-use sand sports area, four padel tennis courts, a new skate park and 150-metre-long pump track.
It will also see the 40,000 m sq of green space restored with new trees and flora installed, ensuring the overall project achieves a Biodiversity Net Gain and the finished development is a welcoming area for the local community to enjoy.
The plans to improve the area's seafront have received £9.5 million from the Government’s Levelling Up Fund and the investment will complement other major projects underway to regenerate the city's Eastern seafront.
As part of Morgan Sindall Construction's commitment to Intelligent Solutions, it will be utilising its own carbon output monitoring system Carbonica, to ensure the project meets the goals of the local community, whilst also being Net Zero.
Guy Hannell, area director for Morgan Sindall Construction in the Southern Home Counties, said: "Being a business that is based in Brighton and having members of the team who live across the city, we understand first-hand the importance of regenerating the West Hove seafront, as it plays such a pivotal role in the community.
"The Southern Home Counties team is committed to delivering state-of-the-art fitness and leisure facilities that will provide significant health and wellbeing benefits for the region, whilst also providing the all-important green space needed for inner-city living."
Kingsway to the Sea is the latest in a long line of work that Morgan Sindall Construction has delivered for Brighton & Hove City Council, with the Southern Home Counties team well underway in delivering 42 one, two and three-bedroom council homes on Victoria Road in Portslade.
