As part of a multi-million-pound refurbishment by Walwick Estate Group, Kemper System has helped to create a stunning new fountain for a luxury hotel and wedding venue in the North East.
Built from scratch, the fountain is the centrepiece of a courtyard adjoining the 'Great Hall' at the Maften Hall estate located in Northumberland. The architects for the hotel’s refurbishment required a waterproofing solution which would ensure longevity and complement the traditional design of the new structure.
To meet the brief, roofing contractors, Ron Robinson Roofing, recommended Kemperol 2K-PUR for the project. The cold liquid-applied product is solvent-free and completely odourless. Manufactured using an 80 per cent castor-oil formula, derived from sustainable sources, the liquid system bonds directly to the substrate forming a seamless, elastomeric waterproof membrane that cannot delaminate and is UV stable.
To enhance aesthetics, the Kemperdur TC traffic coating was applied on top of the 2K-PUR. Also solvent free, this polyurethane-based surfacing system provides a long-lasting protective wearing coating and is available in a variety of colour blends. To meet the architects' design requirements, the 'sand' finish was selected.
Paul Robinson from Ron Robinson Roofing said: "We suggested Kemperol 2K-PUR as an alternative to a glass reinforced plastic (GRP) membrane. The flexibility of the system and colour options ensured it met all aspects of the brief from both an installation and design perspective. Having used the product for more than 20 years, we could also assure the client of the system’s durability and proven track record.
"Another benefit is that 2K-PUR is sustainably sourced making it environmentally friendly and as it’s solvent free, we didn't have to worry about any chemicals potentially contaminating the water."
Victoria Ramwell from Kemper System added: "This project demonstrates the versatility of cold- applied liquid systems and the many advantages of Kemperol 2K-PUR. Not only is it ideal for environmentally-conscious architects, developers and contractors but minimises the risk of any disruption and results in a vapour permeable membrane that is both durable and tear-resistant."
Matfen Hall was owned by the Blackett family for more than 100 years before it was sold to Walwick Estate Group in August 2020. The Group has carried out an extensive refurbishment of the hotel as well as its leisure and golf facilities. The work includes the restoration of the Grade II listed building's Great Hall, which is now the focal point of the hotel.
