Construction News Image
Essex County Council (ECC) has selected Morgan Sindall to build an extension and renovation project at Trinity Road Primary School in Chelmsford.

Procured through the Essex Construction Framework 2 (ECF2), which aims to improve local educational facilities and provide additional student places, completed work will deliver an upgrade to the school's facilities.

The project will comprise a new 629 sq. m single-storey space, which will include an extension to the existing buildings to provide two new classrooms, kitchen and dining hall, as well as refurbishing existing teaching spaces. Once complete, the building will have a brick façade to replicate the pre-existing aesthetic.

As part of Morgan Sindall Construction’s Intelligent Solutions approach, modern methods of construction (MMC) will be adopted to ensure a sustainable, high-quality educational environment. Structure Insulated Panels (SIPs), an external air source heat pump along with photovoltaic solar panels will all be installed, as Trinity Road Primary School aims to achieve Net Zero in operation.

The project aims to create 60 new student places over the next four years, on a rolling expansion.

Throughout construction works, the team aims to deliver social value where it is most needed within the local community. It plans to collaborate with the existing school, community programmes and partners across the supply chain to realise added benefits for the people living, working and learning in the Chelmsford area.

Andrew Harper-Rowe, area director for Morgan Sindall Construction in Essex, said: "It's a privilege to work with Essex County Council at Trinity Road Primary School and continue a strong collaborative partnership that has been developed at other educational projects in the county, such as at Cedar Hall SEN school in Benfleet. Our continued work across the region aims to improve educational facilities for our communities and provide modern, sustainable learning environments for generations of Essex students."
