Construction News Image
The final roof tiles have been laid on a multi million-pound retirement complex in Stoke-on-Trent.

The work is being carried out by Equans on behalf of Stoke-on-Trent City Council. The site will consist of 113 one-and two-bedroom apartments and is located at the former Heathfield Special School plot off Chell Heath Road.

The facility will be called Chatterly Court when complete. Its features include communal areas, dining areas, gardens and additional support features including call alarm systems, walk-in showers and easy access bathrooms.

Representatives of Equans and the council met to lay some of the final tiles on the complex. Commenting on the works, Councillor Chris Robinson, Stoke-on-Trent City Council’s cabinet member for Housing, said: "Equans is making fantastic progress on the Chatterley Court complex in Chell Heath. It is an impressive facility and I have no doubt that this will become an important asset in the city council’s housing stock in the future.

"As a new administration, our intention is to review the planning process to make it easier and more straight forward for developers to build new homes in the city and enable home-owners to make improvements to their properties."

Reflecting on their company's work, Lee Stoneystreet, Regional Director at Equans, said: "It is a pleasure bring our regeneration expertise to this project and see the land transformed into a modern facility for the area.

"In partnership with Stoke-on-Trent City Council, we look forward to completing these high-quality homes which will meet the varying needs of the older population."

The project is expected to be complete by summer 2024, with the council already accepting enquiries and interest in the complex.
