Network Plus has secured a five-year contract for excavation, cable laying works and reinstatement for the East, West Midlands, and South West of England on behalf of National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED).
Network Plus said that the contract substantially increases their footprint of work with National Grid Electricity Distribution, complementing ongoing work for overhead line, and vegetation management. The five-year contract, with the possibility of two one-year extensions, includes the planned and reactive (24/7) excavation, reinstatement, and cable laying works (LV, 11 and 33kV) across the agreed footprint.
This contract comes on the back of Network Plus successfully delivering these works for the client, NGED, over the last five years – retaining our previous areas of East Midlands Region A (EMA - Chesterfield & Mansfield, Derby, Nottingham & Lincolnshire) and West Midlands Region A (WMA – Stoke & Telford) as well as taking on newly awarded areas:
• East Midlands Region B (EMB – Coventry & Warwickshire, Leicester & Kettering, Northampton & Milton Keynes)
• South West Region B (SWB – Somerset & Devon)
• South West Region C (SWC – Redruth, Bodmin, and Plymouth)
Starting early September following a short mobilisation period, the contract has sizeable resource needs and will require additional depots to be established (locations to be confirmed).
Network Plus has also said that this contract will create new jobs, with a total of 110 back office and management resources required across EMA, WMA, EMB, SWB and SWC, alongside 200 civil, cable laying, backfill & reinstatement teams required across EMA, WMA, EMB, SWB and SWC.
Up to 150 staff from the outgoing supplier have been identified, including management, back office, and operational delivery staff.
Contract Director, Carl Dixon said: "This contract award is a fantastic result and highlights the ongoing success of our teams who have been delivering this work for the past five years.
"We are pleased to be working with National Grid Electricity Distribution to increase our footprint and deliver these essential works across a much larger area.”
