Keltbray Secures Major Energy Contracts

Construction News Image
Keltbray has secured two major energy contracts, representing a major milestone in its strategic plan to have a secured pipeline of work in excess of twice the value of annual turnover, with its order book now exceeding £1 billion, representing a four-fold growth in the last four years.

The two major contract awards include:

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) long-term capital project delivery framework for central southern England, as one of three contract partners, worth over £1 billion over the initial four years through OFGEM’s RIIO-ED2 price control period (through to March 2028).

Keltbray Energy Limited will carry out significant network upgrades to electricity infrastructure in one of three allocated areas within SSEN's central southern England distribution area, which covers villages, towns, and cities across rural and urban areas from Berkshire and West London to Wiltshire, Oxfordshire, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

Andy Huthwaite, SSEN Distribution’s Director of Large Capital Delivery said: "The signing of these agreements after a fair and competitive tendering process has been the culmination of a huge amount of work and is a significant step in the delivery of our Capital Investment programme, which will see increased resilience and flexibility in our network that will benefit our 3.1 million customers in the south of England. This partnership working will enable SSEN to better manage and reduce supply chain risks and secure the specialist skills of contract partners in an ever more competitive market."

A major package of works to deliver the Balance of Plant (BoP) contract and 10-year Operation and Maintenance contract, as part of the redevelopment of the former Richborough Power Station site near Sandwich, on the east coast of Kent, into a renewable Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) for site developer Sheaf Energy Limited, on behalf of parent company, Pacific Green.

Keltbray Built Environment Limited is due to commence construction onsite in early 2024, directly following on from the Early Works preparation contract currently being delivered by Keltbray’s remediation team. Once completed and operational, Sheaf Energy Park as it will be known, will be a 249 MW / 373.5 MWh BESS – one of the largest battery storage projects in the UK.

Keltbray's Chief Executive Officer, Darren James commented: "We are delighted to be working with such progressive clients in SSEN and Pacific Green to support the transformation of the existing UK power generation and distribution assets into future-proofed renewable energy facilities, as part of the UK's transition to a cleaner, more secure energy future.

"These awards highlight the Group’s growing strengths and reputation in designing and delivering complex energy infrastructure transition schemes across the UK and are significantly strengthening our secured order book of long term, high-quality work."
