Morgan Sindall Construction has been appointed to undertake upgrades to the Marne Barracks facility in Catterick.
Present at the contract signing ceremony were representatives of Morgan Sindall including Managing Director of Morgan Sindall, Pat Boyle, and Operations Director, Tom Ward; as well as DEO officials and MoD delegates. Guests were invited to a tour of the barracks and took photographs in the Headquarters.
Procured via the Ministry of Defence's (MoD) Defence Estate Optimisation (DEO) Portfolio programme - aimed at design-and-build upgrades to existing military facilities - the project aims to house 21 additional Royal Engineers by 2027, through a series of upgrades and expansions.
In total, nine new assets will be installed over a three-year period, with other cosmetic upgrades and refurbishments taking place simultaneously. This includes additional living quarters, storage facilities, multi-use games areas (MUGAs) and a gymnasium.
A period of survey assessments is underway whilst Morgan Sindall work through RIBA stages 3 and 4. Early enabling and infrastructure works look to start at the back end of 2024, with the main phase two works starting mid-2025.
Tom Ward, Operations Director for DEOP at Morgan Sindall said: "Our armed forces give one hundred percent dedication year-round and are committed to the service and protection of our country. To be one of the contractors named by the DEO to support them through applying our expertise is a great honour.
"The Marne Barracks project is our foremost project on the new Framework and represents a fantastic opportunity to develop and grow our relationship with the MoD. We are already underway with our work designing and developing our vision for a state-of-the-art facility for the Royal Engineers, and look forward to continuing our collaboration with them, the Ministry, and its partners as the project progresses."
