Go Geothermal is the first company in England to offer mobile heat pump installation training.
In addition to two heat pump training centres in the North-East and Midlands, we are now able to take its training on the road with the launch of its Go Green Academy, offering nationally accredited courses to those seeking to become heat pump installers.
It is designed to provide flexible training opportunities across the country and encourage the industry to gain the skills needed to decarbonise homes and buildings in line with UK plans to become Net Zero by 2050.
Go Geothermal, which was formed in 2006, will be able to deliver classroom-based theory training in business premises and then use a specially adapted trailer parked outside to deliver hands-on training in the installation of heat pumps.
The trailer contains a fully working CTC air source heat pump, which is made in Sweden.
Darran Burrage, Go Geothermal's Commercial Director, said: "As one of the largest suppliers of heat pumps in the UK, we are committed to doing as much as we can to empower installers through removing barriers to training and unlocking opportunities.
"Heat pumps will play a key role in decarbonising homes, but we need the installers to be able to meet the 2050 Net Zero target.
"Our mobile training facility, along with our in-house training centres in the North and Midlands, will play a part in making sure people who want to become heat pump installers can access the skills and qualifications they need."
The courses being offered by Go Geothermal via its mobile facility and training centres in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, and Retford, Nottinghamshire, are as follows:
• BPEC Heat Pump Systems – this qualification is accepted by MCS for the purposes of registering as an MCS accredited Installer.
• BPEC Water Regulations/Byelaws – a pre-requisite of the Heat Pump Systems course.
• BPEC Low Temperature Hot Water Heating Systems – this enables an MCS Installer to become accredited as an MCS Designer.
Online course are also being offered in:
• ABBE Level 3 Certificate in Surveying and Calculation of Building Heat Loss – this teaches people how to fully survey, measure, calculate and design (but not install) the required heat pump & heat emitters for a property.
• ABBE Level 3 Award in Understanding the Electrical Obligations of Heat Pump Installation – this details all the requirements that a property and installer will require for the successful installation of a heat pump.
It is estimated that 50,000 installers are required to meet the government’s ambitious annual heat pump installation target of 600,000.
