Breckland Council Secures £1.24m Government Funding For Housing Support

Breckland Council has secured over £1 million in central government funding to advance its work in providing essential housing support.

During a recent council meeting, councillors formally accepted £1.24 million from the Local Authority Housing Fund, which will be used to acquire 10 properties to help residents facing housing challenges access safe, secure accommodation.

In addition to the external funding, the Council approved a comprehensive funding package that includes £224,000 from Section 106 contributions, funds obtained from developers as part of the planning process. This strategic investment will allow the Council to match-fund the property acquisitions, strengthening its efforts to deliver sustainable housing solutions for the district.

This combined funding will play a crucial role in ensuring that Breckland continues to address local housing needs and provide long-term support for vulnerable residents.

Breckland Deputy Leader and Executive Member for Housing and Planning, Councillor Sarah Suggitt said: "This investment is a critical step forward in our mission to ensure that vulnerable individuals and families in Breckland have access to the housing they need.

"This is a significant achievement for the council. Due to underspending in central government in the Local Authority Housing Fund, we took the opportunity to submit a second bid, having already received funding previously. This was a little mischievous on our part, but it perfectly represents the tireless work that Breckland Council is known for in campaigning nationally to provide the best support and services we can locally by bringing national funding to local delivery."
