Winvic Construction Ltd has been appointed as a Project Partner for the UK Green Building Council's (UKGBC) work on Net Zero Carbon Buildings: A Framework Definition Update.
Winvic's prominent position within the task group – which has now met in-person for the first time – underpins the business’ continued commitment to leading the industry with its approach to sustainability, sharing best practice insights and collaboratively shaping forward-thinking guidance.
Winvic is one of three Project Partners, alongside TFT and BNP Paribas Real Estate, and is the only company providing the expertise of three team members to the task group. The task group meeting was the first following the release of the UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard, which is the driver for the evolution of the Framework Definition. The task group is due to conclude its work next January, with the project's output expected to follow in the first half of 2025.
Two of Winvic's team members helping with the Definition Update – Technical Services and Sustainability Director Arun Thaneja and Senior Sustainability Coordinator Robbie Seal – have previously been invited to share their insights on UKGBC task groups; Carbon Offsetting and Pricing, and Embodied Carbon guidance, respectively. It has also been recently announced that Thaneja will play a pivotal role for Winvic as a member of the Westminster cross-party forum, the Advisory Board of the Policy Liaison Group (PLG) on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG).
The third member of the Winvic team to join the Net Zero Carbon Buildings Framework Definition Task Group, is Senior Sustainability Manager Neave Thompson, who has spearheaded Winvic's Green Supply Chain initiative and is responsible for Winvic’s robust processes, third-party data verification and accreditations.
In 2019, UKGBC's Advancing Net Zero programme released its Net Zero Carbon Buildings: A Framework Definition report and over the last five years it has successfully helped stakeholders specify and realise Net Zero on their construction projects. However, to ensure it continues to provide valuable guidance to those in industry seeking to design, deliver, or operate a Net Zero Carbon building in the UK, the UKGBC seeks to evolve the Framework Definition through a collaborative approach involving leading industry professionals.
Tom Wigg, Senior Advisor on Net Zero Carbon Buildings at the UKGBC, said: "Since its publication in 2019, 'Net Zero Carbon Buildings: A Framework Definition' has served as a vital resource for industry progress. Now, we have an opportunity to align it with the newly released UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard. This evolution ensures that the Framework Definition remains an impactful guidance for embedding low carbon principles in the design, construction, and operation across the UK. To achieve this, we are drawing on the knowledge of a variety of industry leaders. We're delighted to have Winvic on board as a Project Partner and have three members of their sustainability team contributing their expertise on the task force."
