Dawn In Major £7m Development Deal With Goodrich Facility

Dawn Construction has been awarded the contract to extend the facilities for global aerospace giants Goodrich at Monktonhill, Ayrshire in a £7million deal.

Dawn will design and construct the 128,800 sq foot building as well as associated external works, drainage and car parking for the American firm.

Based on an excellent performance during the design and construction of the initial building, Goodrich elected to directly retain the services of their preferred construction partner, Dawn.

One of the interesting challenges on this project was with Goodrich Corporation being an American company and the USD/GBP exchange rate movement having an impact on the construction budget. Dawn, using their expertise and ingenuity, were able to provide guidance throughout the design stage to ensure all requirements were met within a tight budget.

At Goodrich, Managing Director Steve Callan said: “ Successful businesses rely not only on the excellent performance of its own employees but also that of its key suppliers and business partners. We used an exhaustive selection processes in appointing Dawn as our construction partner for the first build project.

“They have proven to be an excellent partner quickly understanding the unique requirements of our business and supporting our rapid growth. Based on our previous experience we had no hesitation in retaining Dawn as our preferred construction business partner”.

Goodrich Corporation, a Fortune 500 company, is a global supplier of systems and services to the aerospace and defence markets.

Goodrich offers an extensive range of products, systems and services for aircraft and engine manufacturers, airlines and defence forces around the world. From Aerostructures and actuation systems to landing gear, engine control systems, sensors and safety systems, Goodrich products are on almost every aircraft in the world.

The work at Monktonhill will double the size of the current facility, which maintains nacelles, thrust reversers and engine components for Middle East, European, African and Russian airlines, and is seen as a major boost for the area.

Work started this week on the facility and is expected to be finished on December 24 2007.

And in what will give some New Year cheer to the area, the expansion of the facility will lead to Goodrich hiring around 250 new staff.

Dawn Divisional Manager Eddie Robertson said: “We were incredibly pleased that Goodrich approached us after working with them on the first phase of the facility. The expansion shows a fantastic commitment to the local area and to Scotland.

“Goodrich were really happy with the work carried out and that’s why they came to us for this part of the project as well.

“What it does show though is not only the quality of the job that we provided, but also that our work impresses one of the top 500 companies in the US and is seen to be of such a high standard that they come straight back to us.

“Not that we’re resting on our laurels about this. For us the challenge is now to build on the thoroughly professional job that we did on Phase One and improve on it.”

Local MP Brian Donohoe said: “This is extremely good news and from all counts is an excellent announcement. Dawn Construction are renowned as delivering a job of the highest standard and Goodrich are to be congratulated for awarding the contract to them.”

Mr Donohoe is also delighted that the expansion of the plant will bring more high quality jobs to Central Ayrshire.
