Trelocke Bridge Strengthening Scheme To Begin

Works to strengthen Trelock Bridge in Cornwall, carrying the Unclassified U6017 road between Nancledra and Trembethow will begin on 6 August 2007.

The grade II listed bridge is to be strengthened as part of Cornwall County Council programme to upgrade weak structures within Cornwall.

The strengthening works have been designed to minimise the impact on the structure and its surroundings.

Archaeologists will be present during the excavation phase of the works to record any items of historic interest.

The works will involve the removal of the carriageway surfacing and fill material over the two span bridge to reveal the top of the supporting granite beams. Steel Orthrotropic deck plates will be installed over each span between the paprapets to support the loads from vehicles.

The existing supporting abutments and beams shall remain intact thus retaining the aesthetics of the structure. The road will then be reinstated, concealing the strengthening works. On completion of the scheme there will be minimal visible signs of the strengthening having been carried out.

The road will be closed for approximately five weeks and a signed diversion will be put in place whilst CORMAC, Cornwall County Council’s highway maintenance contractor, carries out he work.
