IStructE Announces Structural Awards 2007 Shortlist

The Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) announces the shortlist for the Structural Awards 2007 on 3 August 2007. A record number of 151 projects were submitted this year, with 46 projects making the shortlist.

Established in 1968, the annual Structural Awards have seen a record number of entries for the second year in a row, which is a testament to their growing profile and prestige within the construction industry.

2006 saw 126 entries, while this year the number of entries has increased to 151.

The 151 projects were entered against 11 awards categories, and from t hese, 46 have been shortlisted. The categories are designed to reflect the breadth of projects for which structural engineers are responsible. The Supreme Award for Structural Engineering Excellence is awarded to the finest example of structural engineering design from the winners of these main categories; the winner of the Supreme Award 2006 was the Sungai Prai Bridge (Malaysia) by Dar Al-Handasah Consultants.

Professor David Nethercot, Chairman of the Structural Awards Panel, commented: “Judging this year’s record number of entries hasn’t been a task, rather it has been a pleasure. We have had designs submitted from all corners of the world, from organisations of greatly varying size and scope and have seen structures configured to meet all manner of design requirements.”

The winning and commended projects for the Structural Awards 2006 will be announced at the gala awards ceremony on Wednesday 14 November 2007 at Lawrence Hall, Royal Horticultural Halls, London.

The awards are sponsored by Corus, Griffiths & Armour, Hays Construction and Property and HIS, and supported by Beresford Blake Thomas (BBT), Peikko Group and Warners Midlands plc.
