Yorkshire Forward, together with UK Trade and Investment, is supporting the development of an industry-led forum for companies operating in the water and wastewater treatment sector.
Mark Lowe, Operations Director for water treatment experts Aqua Enviro Ltd, will lead the forum.
The forum will include businesses that need to treat water as part of their manufacturing process, and will provide an information exchange network for products, process solutions, regulatory requirements and business support services.
According to Yorkshire Forward, the emerging Environmental Technologies sector is worth £400 billion on the global market, with the water industry accounting for more than 50% of this business.
Members of the network will be encouraged to focus on industry and not utility-led opportunities, engage with other private and public sector organisations and pool their expertise to educate the market on water legislative requirements and their solutions.
This will pave the way for a more collaborative, innovative and competitive regional water and wastewater treatment industry.
Jim Farmery, Head Of Innovation for Yorkshire Forward, said: “Water and Waste Water Treatment is a growing industry, not only in the UK, but across the world. The development of a network of expertise is the first step towards establishing the region as a global exporter of knowledge and expertise in the sector."
Mark Lowe said: “Legislation in relation to any type of waste is becoming ever more stringent, and the treatment of water and waste water is no exception.
“If processors and manufacturers in the region are going to keep ahead of the game, it is essential that they understand what the requirements are, and where to go for help and advice. It is equally important that businesses have the opportunity to network and learn from each other.”
