Interbuild Rolls Out The 'Green' Carpet

Interbuild 2007 is the first UK trade exhibition to use completely recyclable carpet.

Visitors to the five-day event (28 October – 1 November) will receive the ‘green’ carpet treatment as just one of a series of steps taken to show Interbuild is serious about sustainability. Energy efficient lighting will also feature across the board.

Furthermore, visitors, exhibitors, contractors and suppliers are being called upon to play their part in Eco Interbuild.

“As the UK’s biggest building show it’s our duty to encourage the trade to take a stronger stance on environmental issues,” says Interbuild Event Director, Gordon Thomas. “Recycling bins will be located around the NEC and we’re also suggesting stand shells should be made from reusable materials.”

In support of these initiatives, organisers have compiled the following five top tips to enjoy a more eco-friendly exhibition experience:
  1. Hire a light pen – Light pens are available to all exhibitors and are by far the most efficient and accurate way to collect data;
  2. Recycle – Ensure all printed material is recycled at the end of the show;
  3. Share lifts – Interbuild is encouraging merchants to get involved in its popular coaches scheme by registering on-line at www.interbuild.com; organisers will subsidise 50 per cent of the cost of a coach, up to a maximum of £250. Show-goers could also share lifts or better still come by train - the NEC is the only exhibition venue to boast its own mainline station;
  4. Use less paper – The Exhibitor Manual is now online, reducing the need to print everything off. The Interbuild press office is also encouraging material to be supplied on CD wherever possible;
  5. Offset your carbon footprint – Consider getting your company involved in a scheme to offset its carbon footprint to, from and during the show. Visit the Energy Savings Trust for help and advice www.energysavingtrust.org.uk
In addition, the snapshot seminars hosted by key trade bodies will provide a wealth of relevant information on ‘green’ issues and other industry hot topics.

The new Eco Product Showcase is also a great opportunity for show-goers to shout about their own environmental efforts by way of any new product developments driven by the current ‘green’ focus.
