The opening of the new school highlights the Assembly Government’s ongoing commitment to invest in school buildings that will provide modern teaching facilities for pupils and staff across Wales. Over the lifetime of the late Assembly £667m has been invested.

John Griffiths, said: "The new building is an excellent example of what can be achieved when Local Authorities and the Welsh Assembly Government work together in partnership.

"In One Wales we have made the commitment for schools to be fit for purpose in the 21st Century. The new buildings constructed here at West Monmouth School and at Abersychan Comprehensive are shining examples of what can be achieved."

He concluded: "As Skills Minister I know that more and more employers are demanding well-rounded individuals with good basic skills. These new facilities will provide a stimulating environment for teaching and learning that will enable pupils to develop the attributes to meet employer’s demands."
