Framework Nears Completion Of Retail Complex

Over three weeks remain until the frame of Swansea's multi-million pound new retail complex is complete.

Visitors to the city centre will have noticed steelwork at the former David Evans site coming on in leaps and bounds as plans to unveil a flagship three-storey facility in the autumn stay on track.

The frame of the 70,000-square foot building is now taking shape and flooring, roofing and external facade works are due to start at the end of March.

A topping-out ceremony is planned once all the steel girders are in place.

Swansea Council signed a development agreement with London-based Thurleigh Estates for the redevelopment of the former David Evans site.

Fashion giants Zara and Slater Menswear have already signed up as tenants at the new complex.

Steps are already in place to minimise disruption to nearby traders.

Swansea Council Leader, Cllr Chris Holley, said: "This scheme will play a very important role in breathing new life into Swansea city centre, attracting more footfall and generating more investment opportunities.

"The construction phase of the new retail complex is very much on track and, when complete, the facility will offer a wonderful contrast to historic Swansea Market and our varied mix of independent traders.

"We're now starting to see tangible progress on site and the project is very much on schedule."
