State-Of-The-Art School For Reddish Moves A Step Closer

Plans to build a new state-of-the-art school and children's centre 'fit for the 21st century' in North Reddish, Stockport, have moved a step closer.

Both Stockport Council's Planning and Highways Regulation Committee and the Schools Adjudicator have given the go-ahead for the new school at Harcourt Street.

Following a visit to the site the Schools Adjudicator has agreed that the proposal to amalgamate North Reddish Infants and Junior Schools and Fir Tree Primary School should take effect from September 2010 when the new school is expected to open on the Harcourt Street site. Until then the three schools will continue to operate as they do now, on separate sites.

When the new school opens it will become a focus for primary and early year's education, sport and community development in the North Reddish area. It will be a flagship construction and will lead the way for future educational building in Stockport for years to come.

The building will include a new primary school and a children's centre.

Councillor Mark Weldon, Executive Member for Children & Young People, said: "This is excellent news for children and families in North Reddish and will give primary and early years education in the area a real boost. Local people were consulted on the plans.

"This new school and learning centre will provide children with modern and high quality educational facilities, giving them the best possible start in life."
