Arbroath Water Tower Repaired

Angus Council has announced that essential repair works to Arbroath's historic water tower have now been completed.

The works had been identified in the initial report by Gray, Marshall and Associates, the company appointed by Angus Council to identify the work necessary for the preservation of the building and options for its future use.

Neighbourhood Services convener Mr Jim Millar said the report provided the council with a comprehensive picture of the work needed to preserve the building.

"I think everyone in the council recognises the historic importance of the building and supports its preservation and given the right funding package that support may also extend to it being brought back into some use if at all possible," said Mr Millar.

"But before we can go any further we need more information about cost of undertaking the various works identified to protect the building and this is currently being discussed with our consultants."

Commenting on the next step he said: "The second part of the consultant's report will bring forward options for potential uses of the building.

"These findings will inform reports that will be considered during future committee cycles, outlining recommended further actions and the funding implications of any future proposals."
