Kyle Academy Officially Opens

The new Kyle Academy annexe was filled with the sound of joyous music, as part of an evening of entertainment provided by school students, to mark the formal opening of the new building.

Kyle Academy was opened in 1979 and at that time had a 154 pupils in first year. The school now has 765 pupils from first year to sixth year students.

South Ayrshire Council's ambitious £76 million Public Private Partnership (PPP) project involves the construction of new primary schools at Barassie, Alloway and Monkton, new secondary schools at Belmont and Prestwick and the annexe to Kyle Academy. Investment in its school estate by the Council will raise educational standards and promote equality and good citizenship for all pupils.

The PPP project has embraced the Council's vision of new schools that are well designed, built to a high specification and managed by high quality staff. The schools will support the educational demands of the present and those of the future. The annexe has increased learning and leisure facilities inside the school and created additional outside space, that includes a terraced grass seating area.

Councillor Hywel Davies, the Council’s Portfolio Carrier for Learning and Prosperity, officially opened the annexe by unveiling a plaque, he said: "This is an amazing facility for Kyle Academy and the local community. It provides retractable seating for up to 300 people that can be put out in seconds. When the seating is not out there is a large circular space for drama, gymnastics, dance and a range of other activities. In addition an e-learning suite provides a bright and interesting learning space for students to support their modern learning needs.

"This annexe is the first of the PPP project buildings to be completed, it will make such a difference to the lives of students, staff and local communities in and around the respective schools."
