Building A Greener Future

Construction companies across the Ashford area have been given the opportunity to build a greener future by reducing and recycling waste generated on building sites.

Remade South East has been working with Ashford's Future to help construction businesses in Ashford to meet forthcoming legislation by offering advice and training on waste reduction and re-use from demolition, refurbishment and new building projects.

Several sites in the Ashford area have been involved in the project including developments at Eureka Park, Stanhope and Highland Park in Singleton.

Businesses involved in the project have benefited from receiving a waste audit and obtaining advice on the production of a Site Waste Management Plan, which will soon be a statutory requirement imposed by the Government to make construction companies find more responsible ways of dealing with their waste.

In addition, a free training day was provided to participating companies to help them to integrate new sustainable methods into their working practices, including the purchase of more environmentally friendly products. As a result of this activity, participants in the scheme have found they can reduce costs on site and achieve a competitive advantage in the market place.

The project is part of sustainable construction programme funded by the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) which covers the Ashford area as well as the Thames Gateway, Surrey and Hampshire.
