Burnley Scheme Gets Green Light

A project to help tackle climate change has been given the green light by Lancashire Local Burnley.

£6,710 was agreed by councillors for an energy conservation scheme in the town.

The proposal by the Canalside Community Association will see better insulation and a more efficient heating system installed at the group's historic Lindsay Street premises.

The scheme is the first in Burnley to receive grant aid from Lancashire County Council's Climate Change Fund.

Cllr Maureen Martin, Chair of Lancashire Local Burnley, said: "This scheme will help to increase awareness of energy efficiency measures as well as being a worthwhile investment in the future of a well used community building."

The grant will help to pay for a new efficient condensing boiler as well as dry lining insulation to the ground floor internal front walls and mineral wool insulation to the ground floor suspended ceiling.

The grade two listed building dated 1875 was originally an Ancient Order of Forresters' Hall.

The restored and refurbished building will be the venue for a variety of community activities and the base for an educational scheme which will be available to schools and individuals who want to research the rich cultural background and history of both the community and the canal-side area.
