Graham Longden, President of the Castle Market Branch of the National Market Traders Federation said: "We're glad that the Council have now been able to sign the Lease. We've been negotiating for a number of years for a new indoor market and now we have The Moor which should be a real success. I'd like to stress that Market Traders voted for the new market, which will be more environmentally friendly and bring us right up to date."

The market is a hub for small independent business. The new market will allow current market traders to survive and grow as well as encouraging new businesses to start up.

Mr Curtis added: "Close to the proposed Sevenstone new retail development, and part of the regeneration of The Moor, the new indoor market will enhance the City’s retail offering. As well as regenerating the Moor area, high quality public realm will also be created, in line with the other award winning spaces across the city centre."
