The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is 'greatly impressed' with progress being made at London 2012, following a three-day review.

Speaking at the end of the visit, IOC Coordination Commission Chairman Denis Oswald said: "The Commission has been greatly impressed by the quality and speed with which LOCOG and its partners have been able to progress since our last visit.

"The most visible element is obviously venue construction, and the progress made on the Olympic Park in particular is truly astounding. In all the areas of preparation, we have been able to see marked progress by the London 2012 team and this puts LOCOG on track to deliver great Games in 2012 and a great legacy beyond."

Also Olympics Minister Tessa Jowell has welcomed the report by the IOC on progress towards 2012.

"I am delighted that the IOC Coordination Commission has recognised the strong progress we have made in our preparations for the 2012 Games," she said.

"The fact that today we marked the start of work early on the stadium is a tremendous achievement and is a real indication of our progress.

"We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that London hosts Olympic and Paralympic Games we can all be proud of.

"We are united in our determination to achieve that and to maintain support across the country for London 2012."
