Residents are celebrating the start of building work on a new roof for a well-used community centre on Bradford's Clayton Estate.
Lovell has teamed up with Incommunities to carry out much-needed external refurbishment work at the Friendship Centre in Thornaby Drive.
As part of its support for community initiatives, Lovell, in partnership with Incommunities, is giving the Centre a new roof. The company will also provide new external render and create a patio area at the back of the Friendship Centre building for free.
Through Incommunities' large-scale housing modernisation programme, Lovell, which specialises in housing regeneration work, is currently refurbishing 284 homes on the Clayton Estate with improvements including new kitchens, bathrooms and wiring upgrades.
"From talking to residents in the Clayton area we know how much they value the Friendship Centre," said Lovell Site Manager Martyn Stone. "We have been very happy to get involved to help give the Centre building a new lease of life. As well as renewing the roof and rendering the outside walls, we are also going to create a patio area so that people using the Centre can sit outside when the weather’s fine."
Ken Nicholson, Director of Incommunities - development and regeneration, added: "Incommunities is delighted to support our construction partner, Lovell, in the external refurbishment of this popular community centre. It shows our commitment to put communities and people at the heart of everything we do.
"We are currently investing over £3.1 million in the modernisation of nearly 300 homes in Clayton for the benefit of our customers. This is part of our multimillion pound modernisation programme to bring homes across the district up to a level in excess of the government's Decent Homes Standard."
