After completing the first stage of work at the new Bishop Auckland College two months early, Atkins' cost consultancy, Faithful+Gould, has won a further £20 million contract to complete further stages.
Faithful+Gould's appointment for the next two phases was as a result of its successful completion of Phase One; a £17 million contract. This involved the demolition of part of the existing college, constructing a new three story building and creating new car parking and landscaped areas. The project was completed eight weeks ahead of schedule and within budget. Faithful+Gould's performance was recognised regionally when it was awarded a commendation for collaborative working by the North East Constructing Excellence Awards.
The second and third phases at Bishop Auckland College will see Faithful+Gould providing cost consultancy services both pre and post contract. These phases will involve the construction of two new buildings costing £19 million, and a £1 million refurbishment of an existing building.
Both phases will run simultaneously and are due to complete in September 2009.
Faithful+Gould will be working with the same design team previously appointed by the college which includes SURGO Construction, Howarth Litchfield Partners and Cundalls.
Gary Marshall, Faithful+Gould Regional Director, said: "We are delighted to have been appointed to the second and third phases of this project which is credit to our hard work and performance during the first phase. It is always great to see a project through from inception to completion and I am looking forward to seeing the finished results.
"The project will again prove challenging so we have executed careful planning to enable construction work to be carried out on a live college campus with minimal disruption to students and staff."
