Shower-Save Heat Recovery For Showers

Ever increasing energy prices and concerns about the environment mean that many people are looking for cost effective methods of reducing both their bills and carbon footprint. The Shower-Save is a simple, low cost system that captures and re-uses the heat that is normally lost down the drain when you shower. Developed in Holland, where it is currently being installed in 20% of all new homes, this innovative technology is now available in the UK.

In an average house the majority of the hot water use is for showering. Most of that heat goes straight down the drain. Official test figures show that the Shower-Save can reclaim up to 60% of that heat. The low cost of the system means it has a very quick payback time. As the construction is all copper and there are no moving parts the system will pay for itself many times over during its long life.

On its own the energy savings are comparable to installing a solar water heating system but for a fraction of the cost. Plus it works all year round. You can of course install it in conjunction with solar. By recycling the heat that your solar kit has generated you will maximise its benefits.

How does it work? After the wastewater goes down the plug it passes through a heat exchanger where the heat is transferred to the mains cold water on its way to the shower mixer and hot water cylinder/combi boiler. The wastewater never comes into contact with the water you use.

There are 2 models. The Recoh-vert is a long pipe, for use in upstairs bathrooms, which replaces the existing waste pipe. It is basically one copper tube within another. The wastewater travels down the central pipe and the cold mains travels up through the space between the pipes, picking up the heat on the way. The Recoh-Tray is a high quality Bette shower tray that incorporates a heat exchanger in its base.

There are also many commercial applications for the Shower-Save including hotels, swimming pools, leisure centres, schools etc.
