Sizewell B Engineer Joins World Nuclear University

A trainee operations engineer at British Energy's Sizewell B power station has returned from six weeks in Canada after taking part in the World Nuclear University.

Mark Salisbury, 29, from Ipswich joined 98 other young engineers from 36 countries at the fourth WNU in Ottawa, bringing together some of the most talented and dedicated young engineers from the industry.

Mark said: "The aim of the event was to give us an understanding of the key issues surrounding the nuclear industry, with a view to preparing us for leadership roles in the future.


"There were lectures on global climate change, fossil fuels and renewable energy technologies, with extensive insight from some first class speakers such as former Greenpeace founder Patrick Moore and Director General of the World Nuclear Association John Ritch."

Mark, who has been working at Sizewell for four years and has recently moved from the chemistry department to training as a reactor operator, said the experience was extremely worthwhile.

Mark said: "The WNU is a once in a lifetime opportunity, providing unique exposure to like-minded Fellows from around the world, and some well respected experts and high fliers in the nuclear field."
