NASC Encourages Whistle Blowing On Contractors Who Refuse To Select Regulated Scaffolding Companies

Construction News Image
The National Access and Scaffolding Confederation (NASC) is stepping up the pressure on construction and building sites by encouraging their members to anonymously 'whistle blow' on principle contractors who continue to opt for non-regulated scaffolding companies.

The new facility is available in the members area of the NASC website - www.nasc.org.uk

"Lowest price is still being selected over best practice and regulation in some corners of the construction industry," stated Kevin Mouatt, President of the NASC.

The NASC has just completed their latest annual safety report and again the figures report that the number of regulated scaffolding operatives is rising and the incident and frequency rate continues to fall.

The report is published in conjunction with 2007 accident statistics provided by all Full Contracting Members of the NASC (whose operatives account for over an estimated 50% of the qualified scaffolder workforce) and details all incidents throughout the year. The Safety Report confirms that by working to the guidance laid down by the NASC, and conforming to its strict membership requirements fewer accidents are likely to happen.

"Sites opting for non regulated scaffolding contractors are turning a blind eye on scaffolding safety and this has to stop! Scaffolding is one of the safest forms of access equipment, as long as it is being used correctly," concluded Mr Mouatt.
