School Engineering Partnership Gets Results

An award-winning partnership between British Energy's Sizewell B nuclear power station and Leiston High School has produced its first British Energy apprentice.

One of the 21 GCSE Double Engineering students who began the partnership in 2006 has just signed up as a four-year apprentice with British Energy, while nearly half of his co-students are going on to study engineering at a higher level.


Peter Lee, 16, will join nine other new apprentices from Sizewell, along with apprentices from across British Energy's sites, as he starts four years of training in mechanical engineering at HMS Sultan in Gosport, Hampshire this month.

Peter said: "Working with the engineers at Sizewell B during my GCSE course really inspired me and made me think this is something I could do for a career.

"I'm really pleased to have got the apprenticeship and I'm looking forward to the challenge and training ahead of me."

The partnership with Leiston High School began in 2006 with the students attending Sizewell B maintenance workshops to work alongside the nuclear power plants engineers during their GCSE project work.
