One of Staffordshire's most respected civil engineering and construction firms, Toft Johnson (Construction) Ltd, has been bought by Shropshire-based Wrekin Group plc.
Toft Johnson was established over 40 years ago and employs approximately 35 people. It specialises in the construction of public buildings, schools, hospitals and warehousing facilities across the West Midlands. Clients have included the NHS, Royal Mail, Ministry of Defence, Newcastle Under Lyme College and various City and County Councils, with contract values typically ranging from between £50,000 to over £2 million.
Based in Chesterton, Toft Johnson is one of only five main contractors on the Renew North Staffordshire panel, a partnership of local organisations that are working together to deliver a £2.3 billion investment programme.
Wrekin has acquired the business from the Johnson family for an undisclosed sum. The management team at Wrekin now plan to grow the firm by maximising opportunities from Renew.
Peter Greenwood, Group Joint Managing Director, explained: "This acquisition forms part of our strategic objective to build a group of businesses that complement each other. This will give us an increasingly diverse client base that reduces our exposure to any single area of the economy and provides a robust defence against this and any future down turn.
"We are pleased to welcome Toft Johnson on board knowing that they match our values and operate to the high ethical and quality standards that both Wrekin Group and our clients demand. Wrekin Group now has five quality businesses that are committed to continually improve all services to our clients and provide opportunities for staff fulfillment."
