Lovell is giving two teenagers the chance to build careers in the construction industry as it carries out major housing improvement works for Homes for Haringey.
Lewis Wood, 18, and Sean Cronin, 17, are learning their trades with Lovell under the company's apprenticeship scheme. Both are working for Lovell on a £60 million, four-year housing improvement programme which the company is carrying out for Homes for Haringey in Tottenham.
In addition to their work on site, Lewis and Sean both attend the Lovell Craft Academy, the company's national apprentice training centre based at Stephenson College in Coalville, Leicestershire, on a block release basis. They are studying for NVQ Level 2 qualifications in maintenance operations which sees them learning about a number of different construction trades such as joinery, bricklaying and plumbing.
"My father and my uncle both work in construction and, when I left school, I studied plastering for two years at Barking College," explained Lewis. "While I was at college, I heard about the Lovell apprenticeship scheme. The idea of working on site really appealed to me, so I decided to apply."
"A friend of my dad's is a plumber and I'd previously done some work with him at weekends which I really enjoyed," said Sean. "Several friends mentioned Lovell to me and when I looked into the company's apprenticeship scheme, it seemed like the perfect opportunity for me to build on the construction skills I'd already learned."
Lewis and Sean have carried out a variety of work as part of their apprenticeships including kitchen fitting, tiling, plumbing and plastering. Both are hoping to continue their careers with Lovell once their studies are complete.
