In a review of Selby's plans for a new hospital and council office complex, the Office of Government Commerce has commenced the project and recognises the appointment of Turner & Townsend as a positive step forward to support the mobilisation of the scheme.
Turner & Townsend has been commissioned to provide project management services to the planned development of a new joint hospital and civic centre complex.
The project is a partnership between North Yorkshire and York Primary Care Trust (PCT) and Selby District Council, working alongside North Yorkshire County Council, York Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, local GPs and NHS Yorkshire and Humber Strategic Health Authority.
A team of independent experts has examined the scheme to ensure it can be delivered on time and within budget. The review concluded the project had the potential to be a "win-win scenario for all partners".
The Government review considered whether the development would meet the needs of the organisations involved, the local community and whether it was affordable and represented value for money for taxpayers.
The project forms an important part of the council’s town centre regeneration plans and could facilitate improvement in the way services such as health, housing and social services are delivered, benefiting residents.
Janet Probert, the Primary Care Trust's director of community and mental health services, said: "The review process has been extremely helpful to the whole project team it has looked at why we’re doing this and how we will deliver the project."
Leader of Selby District council, Cllr Mark Crane, added: "This has been an important process to go through to ensure we are on track with the scheme so we can be sure it will deliver what we want it to deliver."
