ISG Organises Site Tour For Leeds College Of Building Students

ISG recently invited a group of students from Leeds College of Building to take a tour of Toronto Square, its multi-million pound commercial office re-development in central Leeds. The students, on the 1st Year BTEC National Certificate in Construction, were all classmates of Declan Storey, a new ISG Construction Trainee, who was recruited after a six-week stint of work experience on the site and now attends the College.

ISG works closely with Leeds College of Building and recommended the site visit as a practical demonstration for much of the theory that the students learn in the classroom. The timing of the visit neatly coincided with significant activity across a range of different trades on site as the project to deliver high specification commercial office accommodation moves towards a summer 2009 completion.

Anthony Mitchell, ISG Site Manager at the Toronto Square project was on hand to give the students a guided tour of the site: "It is essential that as part of the process of gaining formal construction qualifications, students get the chance to visit a well run project and see first hand how the theory works in practice. We were delighted to welcome Declan's classmates down to site as this gave the students the chance to see a comprehensive range of trades on a single compact site.

"The students took away a great deal from the visit and it is apparent from the knowledgeable questions that were asked throughout the tour, that this latest intake look set for a very bright future in construction."
