Apprentices Set To Help Transform Wirral's Fiveways

Construction News Image
Two Birkenhead teenagers are starting construction apprenticeships with Lovell, working on the large-scale programme to build new homes on the Fiveways estate in Rock Ferry.

More than 280 new homes are being built by Lovell in the neighbourhood through the NewHeartlands Housing Market Renewal Pathfinder programme delivered by Wirral Council.

As part of the HMR programme, Lovell has taken on local apprentice joiners Blaine Hannon, 18, and Kieran Calland, 17, who are starting Modern Apprenticeships with the company.

Over the next two years, the teenagers will complete a structured training programme combining working on-site at Fiveways with day-release course at Wirral Metropolitan College. Both are working towards NVQ Level 2 qualifications in Carpentry and Joinery.

On site, Blaine and Kieran work alongside qualified joiners who help them develop their skills.

They are also supported by Lovell craft trainee supervisor Paul Woby. He said: "Creating these kinds of opportunities for local people is a really important part of this major regeneration programme, alongside the delivery of the new homes. Blaine and Kieran are keen to learn and have made an excellent start to their careers with Lovell."
