Support services and construction company Carillion got tops marks from teachers after one of its teams returned to the classroom to introduce Surrey reception children to the work they carry out and to highlight safety.
Currently Carillion carries out the highway maintenance in Surrey as part of its Surrey Highways Partnership.
This involves maintaining more than 2400km of roads in the South East part of the County.
School children aged between four and five years old, from Reigate Parish Church Infant School were given special high vis jackets emblazoned with the words 'Kids at Work' and were introduced to the work carried out by surveyors and other elements in the construction process.
They then had to complete five activity stands to become Construction Worker Trainees. With supervision the children got a chance to build a wall, use an engineer's level, identify construction warning signs and operate a 7.5t vehicle crane. The children were rewarded for completing each activity with a sticker for their trainee cards.
Reigate Parish School Headteacher Ms Crocker said: "This was a great learning experience for the children - one they will not forget in a long time. They simply loved building a real wall and operating the crane and look forward to practising these skills in their own role play."
