The new 500 square metre community pavilion incorporates a glazed hall, kitchen/bar area, facilities for under-5 children and four changing rooms in an eye-catching design. It will serve soccer pitches and tennis courts.
A formal brick-laying ceremony to mark the start of construction will be performed by Councillor Matthew Lee, Peterborough City Council's cabinet member for community services. He said: "The Riverside development of 1,000 homes is a significant addition to the existing Fletton and Woodston community so these new facilities fill a vital need.

"The innovative design and efficient use of space mean the pavilion will meet the needs of all sectors of the local community throughout the year."
The community hall is designed to accommodate a range of activities and will have glazed panels and skylights to make full use of natural light. The pavilion is fully accessible and toilets will include 'child-size' facilities. An external play area for children will also have a barbecue. Robust external wall blocks have been selected to harmonise with the contemporary architecture of nearby houses.
Capita Architecture designed the pavilion and construction is being undertaken by Kier Eastern, with completion expected by the end of August.
