Renovation Of Halcyon Court Windows

Ventrolla has completed the renovation of 70 sash windows at Halcyon Court, a care home for the elderly in Headingley, near Leeds.

Originally two private residential properties built in the early 1900s, Halcyon Court was completely refurbished four years ago when new owner Anchor Trust first acquired it. But a number of the bedroom windows were ill-fitting, causing them to rattle and lose heat, which prompted the company to call in a sash window specialist.

Building surveyor for Anchor Trust Andrew Turnbull said: "It was proving difficult to keep the rooms at a constant temperature and energy bills for the site were excessively high. It was clear a lot of heat was being lost through the windows. Replacing them would have been extremely costly and time consuming. However, Ventrolla assured us it was possible to carry renovation work, which I'm pleased to say has proved most effective."

The project was overseen by Ventrolla's North East and Yorkshire Ridings branch. Managing director Lawrence Wall said: "Halcyon Court is an impressive period building set in attractive grounds. Our renovation techniques meant the performance of the windows could be addressed to improve the comfort of residents without affecting the property’s outward appearance. Since the home remained occupied while we were on site, we liaised closely with the manager to work around their care routines and ensure residents were not inconvenienced."

Anchor Trust is the UK's largest not-for-profit provider of support, care and housing for older people. Established in 1968, the company employs 10,000 people and provides housing and support to 50,000 customers every week. Ventrolla is based in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, and offers a bespoke renovation service for timber sliding sash and casement windows. Its unique low friction sealing system significantly improves the window's performance and energy efficiency.
