The city council has agreed to sell the freehold for a site at Madeline Road, on the Bursom Industrial Estate, to the bakery firm Samworth Brothers so it can expand its Charnwood Bakery plant with the creation of 66 new jobs.
The move has been approved by councillors, subject to Samworth Brothers getting planning consent for the extension.

The city council has also agreed to lease a plot of land at Bradgate Street, off Woodgate, to cement company Cemex, so the firm can vacate its riverside site at Pingle Street.
In turn, the Pingle Street site has been acquired by the Homes and Community Agency (HCA), to secure future residential development.
Leicester City Council leader Ross Willmott said: "I am pleased that these plots of land can be sold and put to good use. Clearly they will allow a number of proposed schemes to progress, and will bring clear benefits to the communities involved.
"Each of these schemes is significant - the move of Cemex is a key milestone in the waterside regeneration, and opens up a real opportunity. We are grateful to the HCA for helping to make this happen."
