National design practice P+HS Architects has achieved planning permission for a new £2.7m sustainable medical centre in north Leeds.
Developed by Abstract for their investment partners, Assura the new 1750 sq m building will replace the current cramped accommodation at Tinshill Lane for Dr Islip and partners. Designed by P+HS the bright and modern building will provide spacious and flexible facilities with opportunity for future expansion.
Tinshill Medical Centre is the latest in a series of contemporary medical buildings by P+HS and will include services such as GP and nurse consulting with dedicated treatment rooms and ophthalmology services, patient education services, and pharmacy, improving the range of services available to patients at local level.
Tom Potter from P+HS Architects said: "The deceptively simple layout provides generous accommodation and a clear division of services that the surgery staff have helped to shape from the original brief given to us by Assura and the GP's. Whilst the internal arrangements have been honed by the users, the exterior elevations have been designed in close collaboration with Leeds city planners, who have been very positive and active in helping push for a real integrity to the design."
A key driving force in the design of this medical centre became the future adaptability of the building which is a core element in P+HS’s sustainable design. Structured around a steel frame, the building has under floor heating throughout the entrance level, which allows for complete internal flexibility and the potential to change the layout to suit the needs of the practice. The first floor includes expansion space that can accommodate new services to match the changing needs of the local community. Whether the space is occupied by the surgery or by a separate user, the building has been designed by P+HS to accommodate all future requirements.
