Lovell is set to start work on a £5 million housing development for Merthyr Tydfil Housing Association.

The new development of 37 affordable homes - for rent and for shared ownership through the housing association - will be built at Hermon Close, Dowlais, Merthyr Tydfil. The housing scheme has been designed by CFW Architects and is being project managed by Hendre Ltd who have been appointed as development agent.

The new housing, which is made up of two bungalows for residents with special needs and 35 houses, has been designed to meet Level 3 of the Code for Sustainable Homes, the system for assessing the environmental performance and sustainability of new housing.

Homes which meet Level 3 of the Code are 25% more energy efficient than most new housing. The Merthyr Tydfil homes will benefit from high levels of insulation and solar hot water systems. They will also be fitted with mechanical ventilation with heat recovery systems which bring fresh air in from outside and recycle hot air from bathroom and kitchens.

Lovell is set to start construction work in June. The development is due to be completed in summer 2010.
