Lovell Secures £8.2m Of New Housing Work

Construction News Image
Lovell has been awarded two new affordable housing contracts worth a combined £8.2 million.

The company has been chosen by housing association Boston Mayflower to build Broadfield House, a £6.3 million extra care housing complex, in Boston, Lincolnshire. Arranged over three storeys, the 40-bedroom development for people with specialist care needs will also house communal areas for residents and a call centre.

Broadfield House will incorporate a number of sustainable features including solar thermal technology to heat the building’s domestic hot water supply and energy-efficient ground source heat pumps to provide under-floor heating on the ground floor.

In addition, Lovell will demolish existing care facilities at the site to make way for the new building. Work on the project is due to be completed in September 2010.

Lovell has also been selected by Circle Anglia for a £1.9 million project to build 20 new affordable homes in Bassingbourn, Hertfordshire. Named The Causeway, the new development will feature 10 two-bedroom and 10 three-bedroom homes which will be available for affordable rent.

The homes will be built to Level 3 of the Code for Sustainable Homes, the system for measuring the environmental performance of new housing, and will include solar thermal technology to provide hot water. Work at The Causeway is set to be completed in June 2010.
