Top Planner In Plymouth

One of the key national figures in planning will be taking a look at the changing face of Plymouth city today.

Martin Willey, the President of the Royal Town Planning Institute, is visiting Plymouth to see how planning has shaped and inspired change in the city.

Councillor Ted Fry, Cabinet Member for Planning, Regeneration and Economic Growth, said: "We are delighted to be able to show Martin around as Plymouth enjoys a strong reputation for planning and for getting people involved in shaping how their city should be.


"The city has won competitions doing this and our planners have inspired plenty of debate and passion about what should or shouldn’t happen in years to come."

Plymouth is at the forefront of the Local Development Framework (LDF) process nationally. The LDF is a set of documents which guide planning and development as well as efforts to transform the city into a thriving, successful, attractive and sustainable place for people to live and do business.

In 2006, the Council won the Royal Town Planning Institute silver cup for its LDF programme and has had more adopted more Development Plan Documents than any other council in England.
