Alison, who successfully managed Liverpool-based family-owned firm Triangle Builders Ltd, took the reins as the first female chair of the NFB last year. Alison has worked tirelessly during her time as national Chair and recent highlights include meeting with David Cameron, Francis Maude and key industry decision makers at Number 10 Downing Street where she discussed how to remove barriers to competition and encourage a culture of innovation. The NFB has long campaigned for many of the initiatives that are now being rolled out.
Alison has also served with the North West Training Council, the National Construction Academy and Hugh Baird College, sponsoring apprentices since 2003.
In addition to her work in the construction industry, Alison is also very active in the charitable sector having raised over £20,000 for cancer research in her home town of Liverpool. Alison also took on the role as a guide leader to prevent the local unit from closure thus benefitting the young people in her community. She led her company in sponsoring the Liverpool Joint Soccer League under-12 team and the Woodlands Hospice, having done so since 2001.

Commenting on her honour, Alison said: "I am very honoured and delighted to have been awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List for services to the construction industry.
"As I come towards the end of my year as Chair, I have been privileged to represent such an amazing profession, and such dedicated members. We all want to play our part in improving the built environment, in harnessing new technologies and innovation and in working towards a sustainable future. Many of the members I have spent the past year meeting, are doing just that, and in very difficult conditions.
"As Chair, it gave me great pleasure to meet many of our members throughout 2011 and to be able to represent them at the highest levels of influence, including at Number 10 Downing Street. I am proud that the NFB is at the forefront of influence and is able to lead on the changes required to support the industry and also the economy. Government, the media and policy makers all recognise the importance of our views and concerns and I am certain that these are being listened to.
"While I am honoured and privileged to have been chosen for this award, I could not have achieved anything without the team effort of the construction industry to pull together and work for the common good. I intend to continue to support fellow builders and contractors to maintain that voice. It’s an honour for me, for the industry and for the NFB."
