Work Is 'Going Well' On West Bridgford Library

There will be much for families to enjoy in the new £5.3m West Bridgford Library and Young People's Centre which opens next spring.

The library already has a high number of families who have a strong affiliation with the service. West Bridgford is one of the busiest libraries in the county in terms of book loans and visits.

Carol Newman, Team Manager for Library Service Development at the county council, said: "Work on the West Bridgford Library and Young People's Centre is going well and forms part of the county council’s Library Strategy over the next ten years to invest in our libraries.

"In the last two years, there have been similar monetary investments in both Worksop and Mansfield Libraries, and the evidence shows that the new-look libraries have been especially popular with families."

Among the improvements will see the children's area moved to the ground floor, a greater level of stock and facilities and a greater number of family-based activities.

While work is underway, a temporary library is open at 52A Rectory Road, on the first and second floor of the building. And during the summer, a mobile library service is providing a venue for the Summer Reading Challenge in the locality.

The new, larger and enhanced library is planned on the current site, in Central Avenue, West Bridgford, scheduled for opening in spring 2013. The plans will see the historic frontage of the existing library site retained, with the rest of the site being developed with a sleek new building and enhanced facilities.
